The Energist | Journal of The Guild Of Energists (GOE) | Vol.3 No.1 Spring 2016 9A question I've been asked many, many times over the last few monthsis, "Why didn't we have the EnergyEFT Foundation (EEFTF) course beforenow?" The answer is quite surprising. We didn't need it "before now." Thereason that we didn't need it was that therewas a time, not at all long ago, when peopleactually read books! They did not only readbooks, they would stop and try out theexercises in the book; in fact, they woulduse a book as an instruction manual. Those were the days of Adventures in EFT (Hartmann, 1999),but about five years ago, the world really did change. Acombination of Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, modern mobilephones and the march of the “app” (mobile/tablet applications),led us to a place where there seems to be no time left to engagewith an actual book like once we did.In the context of people learning the basics of Energy EFT*before* they turn up to take the Energy EFT Master Practitioner(EEFTMP) training, this was clearly a problem. We solved it withthe EEFTF course, and by making super-short cartoon videos tointroduce the basics of modern energy work instead of a freedownload of an Energy EFT Protocol in PDF, as once was the way.The key with rapid change in the modern world is not tobemoan it, but to use it as a challenge - and of course, to risewith the challenge. The problem of that big gap that has been created by theabsence of "the book" to educate, offers an opportunity to bringforward a concept I have been wanting to put into action for along time now. This is the concept of "Special Reports" - inessence, information rich papers on a specific subject or topicwith in-depth additional information. This is a multi-level concept and idea not only relevant toreaders, but indeed to writers. If people don't have the time thesedays to even read "a book" then what about taking the time toactually research and write "a book"? Especially when it may bepresumed that very few, if any, will actually ever read it. In fact,I am now thinking this very article may already be way too long!In the olden days, people would spend a lifetime doingsomething, and eventually produce a definitive "the book" withall their wisdom and knowledge inside of it; much like a medievalbook of shadows. This had always had two problems, long beforethe march of the apps began, namely that A) you would have tospend a lifetime before you get to start; and B) that you wouldhave to produce a tome of a million words at the minimum, orno-one would take you seriously. Both these basic ideas still persist in our collectiveconsciousness, even though they have been outrun by moderntechnology now. These ideas function as a structural block to the"writing of the book" and more generally, to the transmission ofinformation via the written word.So let's talk about the "Special Reports.”The EEFTF course has shown us that we can produce a veryhighly information rich document with remarkably few words. Ipersonally think this is interesting, and actually progress. Perhapsthe learned tomes of the past were too long, too wordy, andmade it too difficult to actually source the most relevantinformation, so that the reader may use it easily.Perhaps focusing on brevity and clarity is a good idea that islong overdue, and now the time has come. Here's what I have suggested we at The Guild of Energists(GOE) do.We begin a shop for Special Reports (for energists, byenergists). This should be a document of no more than 15,000words which covers a special interest subject in depth andtransmits the necessary information and instruction that a fellowenergist may use this. There will be a covercharge of £10 per specialreport of which 50% goes tothe creator, and 50% to TheGOE.Special Reports will onlybe available to active GOE members, so there is no need to addall the basic explanations that may be needed if they fell into thehands of a complete newbie. These Special Reports can be on any topic as understandinghow energy works changes absolutely everything; and memberscan get valuable information on what they need or want to knowquickly and concisely.Over time, a collection of Special Reports would form a personal"the book" - consisting only of relevant chapters that were giventime and attention, at the time they arrived. As an author myself, I see the Special Reports also a bridge tocross the divide between authors and non-authors. I know thatmany more people have knowledge and experience in theirspecial spheres of interest that there are people who can facethe writing of a "the book." This way, we can broaden ourcollective knowledge base and share experiences in a mutuallybeneficial way - in a modern way, you might say.Keeping CLARITY and BREVITY at the forefront for the SpecialReports has another benefit. Alex Kent (GOE director) and Iinvented "The Rosetta Machine" for the EEFTF course, a methodby which the translation of documents is made much faster andeasier than was ever possible before. To make Rosetta work, the author has to explain the concepts,no matter how advanced they may be, in the fewest and mostdirect words possible - bearing in mind that someone will haveto translate this sentence into Czech, Mandarin, Arabic, German,or any other number of languages.I found this process of re-languaging the way I explain thingsmost interesting, and I can say that it absolutely served to focusmy mind on transmitting the information, the pure energy dataif you will, rather than just simply putting words on a page.At this time, Special Reports won't make you rich, but as ourmembership grows, and more and more people becomeinterested in modern energism, the market will grow too andauthors of special reports will receive a monetary reward fortaking the time to share their knowledge, experience andwisdom.Special Reports are also an excellent way of educating peopleto your specialities and explaining who you are in our growingenergist's community, which will allow for better networking andmore opportunities for all concerned. So, over to you! There are two questions. The first is, "If I wasto write a Special Report, what would it be about?" The secondquestion is, "What would I like to know more about?"I look forward to seeing suggestions on our Facebook group, and I look forward to finding out what Special Reports I mightbe writing myself in the future.Indeed, I might begin with a Special Report entitled "How ToWrite A Special Report!" for the next edition of The Energistmagazine! :-)Silvia Hartmann is Chair and Founder of The Guild Of Energists, and the creator of Energy EFT, EMO Energy In Motion, ProjectSanctuary and Modern Stress Management.
